BIG 5-0, BIG DEAL

WHEN I spotted a story claiming an extra million Britons aged over 50 had gone online for the first time in the past year, I thought: “So what?” When the next line of the story claimed “silver surfers” (!) were becoming more confident about using the internet, I nearly choked on my sherry.
Who writes these things? A huge number of the over-50s are still bringing up young children and managing demanding careers.
To insinuate once you hit the big 5-0, your biggest concerns are renewing your Saga magazine subscription and making sure the Grecian 2000 hasn’t run out is a ridiculously outdated view.
Haven’t they seen a recent picture of gorgeous Sharon Stone (left), a 52-year-old mum of three children aged under 10? I doubt she’ll be buying her stair-lift online just yet.
