The force of the wind can be incredible; destructive, even. Harnessed by windmills though, it can be used in all kinds of applications to help with mans daily needs. How to improve on that is the subject of many discussions in several power circles today. With some push and with more than a little luck, we might just get to the point where we never have to worry about energy from any other source. After, solar and hydro energy, I am pretty certain the next form of energy ever conceived was that of the wind. For ages, other forms and sources have come and gone, but wind power remains. That should say something about how much you can rely on it, especially since there might not be a whole lot else you can rely on, the way the earth is going these days. There aren’t a lot of people today who use, or believe even, in wind power. They know that there is energy in it, but getting it out is a different matter. News flash! Europe has been using it for decades. Wonder what the rest of the world was thinking; wonder why the United States did not think to make wind power a bigger deal earlier on. At one time, it was just windmills and grinding corn. Today, the expectations for wind power have soared considerably. This time, we expect to be able to light whole cities with it. That may take some work, though, and some time. But I think it is not too far away anyway. With the right kind of effort in the right direction, who knows, we might just arrive there sooner than we thought. Have you ever seen a wind turbine? From the distance they look so small, but they are awfully gigantic. That ought to give you insight into what it takes to tap wind power. The structure needs to be high up into the air to reach the best that the wind has to offer, and it also needs to have a strong frame that will not buck under the wind load. I have not made mention of the size of the generators that are underneath.
